Prospect Downs Lesson Horse Program

Effective September 1,2025 we will be moving to a prepaid tuition system for riding lessons to ensure our program can remain financially sustainable. Tuition payment has become industry standard and will streamline scheduling, reduce administrative time, ensure lesson horses are balanced in their workload, provide time slots for lesson horse training rides by coaches, and will ensure we maintain the same level of services while developing new programs and learning opportunities for all riders and parents. With tuition payment, riders are paying to book and reserve: a regular lesson time slot, a lesson horse and an instructor, all of which have costs even if the rider doesn’t show up for their lesson: the horse still requires care (hay, farrier, veterinary, blanketing, staffing etc), the coach still has to be paid, the facility and business still have daily operating costs.

Benefits to tuition payments:

  • Simplified billing and payments for parents with one monthly lesson payment at the beginning of each month

  • Consistent schedule for horses, riders and coaches

  • No increase in group lesson prices despite our significantly increased operational costs

  • Reduced administrative time, allowing us to focus more on teaching, horses, and program development

  • riders can choose between group and / or private lessons

  • Once a week riders are paying for 4 lesson a month - for the months that have 5 regular lessons days in a month, these extra lessons are free.

  • Twice a week riders are paying for 8 lessons / month - for the months that have 9 or 10 regular lessons days in a month, these extra lessons are free.

  • Additional services such as grooming and tacking up will be available at an additional cost

Lesson package options:

GROUPLESSONS

  • ‍ Once a week → $315 for 4 lessons/ month

  • Twice a week → $630 for 8 lessons/ month

PRIVATE LESSONS

  • Once a week →30 mins lesson $360

                        →  45 mins lesson $420 / month for 4 lessons.

  • Twice a week →30 mins lesson $720

                                    →45 mins lesson $840 /month for 8 lessons.

 The free lessons in monthly tuition are built in to accommodate lessons that a rider may miss because of illness etc as no make up lessons will be scheduled.  We will modify our teaching schedule for the Christmas season and New Year’s to accommodate rider absences for this holiday season. Lesson cancellations due to instructor absence  will be rescheduled. Riders can purchase extra lessons to supplement the tuition lessons at any time.

STABLE MANAGEMENT

We will offer horsemanship and stable management classes for all lesson program riders on horse related topics such as: first aid, tack, bandaging, course design, horse shows etc. The classes are offered in lieu of rider initiated absences however are available to all riders in the lesson program and their parents.

PAYMENTS

Full payment is due by the 1st of the month by either e-transfer or credit card (a convenience fee will be added for credit card payments); without payment, a rider will not be able to participate in the lesson.  Payments made after the 3rd of the month will result in a late fee added to your account of $25. Should riders choose to not attend the extra lessons that are free and / or the Stable Management classes, no credits or refunds will be given. Monthly tuition prices can not be prorated for rider absences. Riders not able to attend any lessons in a month due to holidays or illness are required to pay 50% of their regular monthly package price.

CANCELLATION / ALTERATION OF TUITION PACKAGE

This Agreement may be canceled/altered with a minimum of  30 days written notice prior to the desired date of termination/alteration or you will be invoiced for the next month’s lessons.  Prospect Downs Stables may cancel the agreement at any time without notice.
